For two and a half years, the neon pink cross that hangs above Botanica Bazaar, a boutique in the Long Island hamlet of Amagansett, has served as a beacon for holistic-minded locals. Any resemblance to the classic French pharmacy signage is no accident. “We’re a beauty store, but also a one-stop shop for health and wellness for the whole family,” says Leilani Bishop, a former model who partnered with Surf Bazaar’s Bethany Mayer. If the mix of products—fluoride-free toothpaste and organic sunscreen, tarot cards and herbal tonics—has always hinted at the opposite coast, it’s only fitting that they would finally land there, with a Los Angeles outpost debuting this month.
“We didn’t want to miss the opportunity to be a part of this community,” says Mayer of the serendipitous chance to open in Palisades Village, a cozy new development that counts other like-minded female entrepreneurs, such as jewelry designer Jennifer Meyer, as tenants. “We’re going to be on a square of grass just like we are in Amagansett!” she adds of the jewel-box space that has been built out by her husband, the sculptor Rogan Gregory, with custom marble, rose quartz, and Douglas fir accents. East-end staples like NYC Botanics’s CBD tinctures and Pennsylvania-based Hollow & Ridge’s minty tick repellant will make their first pilgrimage west, joined by a handful of newcomers: Smile Makers’s candy-color vibrators, Immunocologie’s all-natural Botox alternative, and more.
Below, Bishop and Mayer sound off on the products that are sure to be loved by the Montauk and Malibu surf sets alike.
Smile Makers Vibrators
“The Tennis Coach, the Surfer, and the Fireman . . . We are bringing these studs to L.A., but not how you think—they’re actually the names of the vibrators that are made for women by women. Leilani’s dermatologist once told her that you could tell by a woman’s skin whether she has been having orgasms regularly. We cherish a woman’s body and its potential. Smile Makers’s vibrators allow us to normalize the perception of female sexuality. Now, the only question is: Who will you choose?”
Wildflower CBD Tinctures
“Healing through plants is what inspires us. Since introducing our CBD lines to Botanica Bazaar, we have seen our customers make a real transition into the world of cannabinoids—which makes sense as our bones all hold natural cannabinoid receptors, making it easy for our bodies to receive the pain-relief benefits. Wildflower’s CBD tinctures and vapes not only kill the aesthetics game, but also taste good.”
Oshan Essentials Ele Face Wash
“We had to bring a piece of Hawaii to our Cali store with Oshan Essentials. The Ele Face Wash is truly black magic. This activated charcoal cleanser removes mineral sunscreen and makeup with absolute ease . . . and it foams! We’re obsessed with the squeaky-clean feel.”
Goop G.Tox Himalayan Scalp Scrub
“All we can say is wow! Goop has done it again with this number . . . It’s a scalp scrub and shampoo all in one, and it’s our new favorite shower accessory. The smell alone will make you love it, but it’ll also thoroughly clean your hair and scalp of product build-up, dirt, and oil while also addressing flakiness. Gwyneth [Paltrow] is a true mastermind.”
Immunocologie Super 7 Elixir Face Serum
“Immunocologie is one of our high-performance, all-natural luxury collections. Super 7 uses snail mucin (you read that right), which contains a wealth of regenerative enzymes not only to plump, but also to help fill in fine lines and wrinkles. The ultimate fountain of youth.”
