Anheuser-Busch InBev, the massive brewer that makes Budweiser, Bud Light, and tons of other beers, announced that it is partnering with Canada's Tilray to research "non-alcohol beverages containing THC and CBD," per a press release.

"The research partnership" brings together two industry experts—AB InBev with a "deep experience in beverages" and Tilray, a "global pioneer in cannabis production and distribution." AB InBev will participate in the partnership through its subsidiary Labatt Breweries of Canada, and Tilray's participation will be through High Park Company, an adult-use cannabis subsidiary "which develops, sells, and distributes a portfolio of socially responsible cannabis brands and products in Canada."

Both companies plan to invest up to $50 million dollars. For now, the partnership is limited to Canada, and the companies will make "decisions regarding the commercialization of the beverages" in the future. Hopefully a really cool beverage comes out of this partnership!

Kyle Norrington, president of Labatt Breweries of Canada, says, "We intend to develop a deeper understanding of non-alcohol beverages containing THC and CBD that will guide future decisions about potential commercial opportunities. We look forward to learning more about these beverages and this category in the months ahead."

The release notes that both companies "believes that the legal market for THC and CBD beverages will only thrive if the industry embraces appropriate regulation of adult-use cannabis, including responsible production, marketing, sale and consumption."

Only time will tell if an AB InBev cannabis drink makes it to the U.S., but my fingers are crossed!
